“Writers of the Future” Honorable Mention

A while back I announced that I had received an Honorable Mention in this quarter’s Writers of the Future contest.

Here’s the announcement from their blog. If you scroll way…down…toward…the…bottom you can find my name. 🙂

Congratulations!, but how does that break down, “Honorable Mention”…out of how many? Were there trillions of entries and thus you are in the 0.001% chosen, (Elite!) How do you get “Silver Honorable Mention”, do you have to be over 50? What does this mean for your writing career? Does it go on your resume? Are you now guaranteed a spot as “a future writer”? Is this you “climbing the literary ladder”?

Based on things I’ve read by other people, “honorable mention” generally falls within about 10% of their entries for any one quarter. They get about 1000 entries each quarter. Basically, they felt that the writing was good but not quite as good as the ones that actually made it to the semifinals or actually won. Not sure where “Silver Honorable Mention” falls or what that entails. As far as my writing career, I am putting it on my writing resume. I get a shiny certificate. And that’s about it. I’m not guaranteed anything as far as a “future writer”. It’s just a little bit of a pat on the back.
