One of the projects that I’ve been working on has been serving as interim Treasurer for the nascent speculative fiction organization called SASS (The Society for the Advancement of Speculative Storytelling). This is a great idea that I think originated with Lou Antonelli, an East Texas writer whose work I’ve reviewed on this blog.
The idea behind SASS is that this is the association for beginners AND professionals. For those who write for a living AND for people that have (and love) their day-jobs. For those that are writers AND reviewers AND gamers AND artists. Eventually we’ll be setting up online writers circles and mentoring programs to get more people into the business of creating quality speculative fiction. It’s an idea that I can get firmly behind and am excited to be a part of.
Right now we’re just getting our feet on the ground. We are an official non-profit, incorporated in the state of Texas. We do have a PO Box (PO Box 85, Denton, TX 76201). Soon we’ll be able to start accepting memberships (yay!).
So, as soon as I have more information, if you’re interested in joining, drop us a line. We’ll soon have membership applications and be able to conduct other “official” business.
Stay SASSy, Spec-Fic land…
