It’s been awhile since I blogged, or even really written anything. Lots of distractions about the Serial Distractions Country Store/Car Wash/Yoga Shack™ these days. As a result, this entry is a bit more rambly than usual.
No word yet on any of the darlings that I sent out to publishers. Right now I have three stories being reviewed by various markets. I intend to take another look at the award-winning story I did for FenCon, but haven’t gotten as far as I’d like. Once I’m satisfied with that one, I’ll add it to the mix.
I’m also gearing up for NaNoWriMo next month. I’ve decided to take the opportunity of NaNo to do a more personal project. Essentially, I promised my RPG group that I’d do some sort of write-up of what the future has in store for some characters they played for nearly 10 years. An epilogue to our campaign, of sorts. So, that’s what my NaNo novel will be. No one will be interested in it but us, but at least I’ll have had fun writing it. And, as I keep telling myself, all writing counts. We’ll see how it goes…
Speaking of NaNo, their site is up and the forums in full swing. If you are participating and want a “writing buddy”, look me up under “pencilneckgeek”. I also came across this fun take off on the concept by Pegasus Books. Something to look into if the idea of NaNo is too scary 🙂
I hope to see another of my reviews go up at the Shroud Magazine Book Reviews site soon. I’ll let you know as soon as I know.
Another programming note: I’ve abandoned the content calendar idea. It was kind of lame in the first place and really didn’t do much to help me. In fact, it only served to make me feel more guilty for not following it than I did when all I had was a sense I should write “more” (however much that means). I’m trying to embrace an attitude that while I do want to write more, and to take my writing more seriously, I need to write when I want to or when I need to. Artificial deadlines aren’t fooling anyone, least of all me.
Anyway, that’s a brief run-down on the how things are going in my writerly life at the moment.
