By and Large I Take a Pretty Dim View of Cliches

In my travels across the Internets in my virtual dinghy I came across this rather nifty list of cliches to look out for in my writing.  I’ve added a link to the blogroll as well.

Cliche’s should probably be avoided like the plague.  In the hands of a lesser writer (like myself), it is often better to be safe than sorry.  Mark my words, they more often than not advertise laziness on the part of the writer.  Like all tools, they can be used well and appropriately (in the voice of a character, for instance).  Otherwise, consider them too hot to handle.

About Shedrick

I am a professional librarian and a part-time writer that's working to do that the other way around. I currently live in North Texas in the lovely city of Denton (“The Home of Happiness“) with my lovely wife and the obligatory demon-spawn cats. When not writing, gaming, or watching cheezy kung-fu flicks, I can sometimes be found in a pub (or the American equivalent) enjoying a fine brew.
