Breaking Radio Silence and A Cry for Help

It’s been a while since my last blog entry.  The rumors of my virtual death have been exaggerated…and probably not actually read by anyone, but I digress.

I recently attended ConDFW in Dallas–a report will be forthcoming.  Lots of good information and a bit of fun.  I’ve also got a few more book reviews coming down the pike , including a very nice collection of sci-fi stories set in Texas that I discovered at the con.

I’ve also been working on a new story to submit to the North Central Texas College creative writing contest.  The story I submitted to this contest in 2008 (Teo Torriatte) won third prize, so I’m hoping to perform as well or better this year.

That brings me to my cry for help.

The story I’m working on is entitled “Sidekick”.  It’s a first-person monologue told from the point of view of an ex-sidekick of a popular superhero.  I’m pretty proud of it but I know it can be better.

That’s where you could come in.

I’m looking for feedback on it before I turn in a final draft.  One of the ideas I took from the con which really appealed me is that what I’m looking for is not “constructive criticism”.  What I want is advice on how to make this story as well written as possible.

If you would like to be a reader/editor for my story, please email me at serialdistractions@gmail.com.  I’ll send you my draft as a Word document.

The guidelines for the contest dictate that my story be no more than 3500 words.  Right now it stands at just over 3400.  The deadline for entries is March 8, 2010.  However, I’d like to get your feedback by Wednesday February 24, 2010.

Thanks in advance for your time!

About Shedrick

I am a professional librarian and a part-time writer that's working to do that the other way around. I currently live in North Texas in the lovely city of Denton (“The Home of Happiness“) with my lovely wife and the obligatory demon-spawn cats. When not writing, gaming, or watching cheezy kung-fu flicks, I can sometimes be found in a pub (or the American equivalent) enjoying a fine brew.
