I started NaNoWriMo at midnight November 1st (Portland, OR time) while visiting family in the great Pacific Northwest. I wasn’t sure that was the best plan but actually did pretty well. I managed to get one day ahead of schedule, then lose that day during the last day of visiting and travel, leaving on target (actually, ahead by about 300 words).
The novel (called “Better Angels”) is coming along nicely. My protagonist has assaulted an innocent co-ed, been jailed and later imprisoned in an insane asylum, has met a being that may be an angel or a demon (depending on whom you ask), and has escaped to Atlantic City to begin training to fight the battle of Armageddon. Hopefully this sounds remotely interesting to any potential future readers 🙂
My NaNo ‘writing buddies’ are doing quite well…though one has already breached the 100K. One-hundred-thousand words. Criminy…I’m now at 13K+. I’m happy for her and insanely jealous. A sweet person who needs to quit making the class look bad. All kidding aside, it’s quite a feat. I’ll just have to be satisfied with meeting my much more modest goals.
Anyone that is participating in this madness can ‘buddy’ me…I’m “pencilneckgeek” on the NaNo forums.
Now it’s back to the grindstone of work. I’ve taken a hiatus from running my RPG group’s weekly Serenity RPG campaign. I’m hoping to participate in some local “write-ins” with my fellow Rhinos (that’s the DFW group of NaNo participants). We’ll see if I’ll be able to continue to work in more writing.
I also want to thank my friends and my lovely-and-talented wife for the their understanding and encouragement in this. It’s been a good first week but I see no round women with viking helmets warbling as of yet…
