Shedrick – enjoyed reading your review of Xo. Agreed with your approval of the interactive format, and the way the researched information, which was interesting to me in it’s own right, was massaged into the tapestry of the novel, so that it didn’t lose the reader. Your comments about the pace were on target. The novel kept pulling me along at a fun, comfortable clip! Am looking forward to Cronin’s next installment. . . and your review of it!

It is incredibly hard…but I still think it is something well worth pursuing. I think, like most things, everyone is trying to draw their own map based on the mines that they’ve already stepped in or have been warned about. Finding the positive by eliminating the negative, I guess.

Interesting and poignant post. I committed a similar faux pas a year ago during the first phase of the grimdark and gender debate (although I don’t know how my sexual orientation plays into the “hierarchy of privilege”).
For outsiders wishing to learn about cultures not their own is incredibly hard. Is there a right or wrong way to go about it? I don’t know.
